The road winds
on long and open
You must be free to choose your way
Looking for a place of refuge
At the dimming of the day.
Some may think that life is easy
For a travelling man without a care
Going where that star may lead him
Never knowing what lies there.

Summer time and the days
are long
Life is easy and life is fine
Nature's bounty overflowing
A brimming cup of sparkling wine
There is work upon the land
Honest toil for honest pay
By the fire's glow you lie contented
Beneath the stars at close of day.

But all too soon the Sun
is gone
Darker days are drawing near
Winter's grip is now upon us
Comes the end of another year.
Harvest done and the work is over
On the fields the snow lies deep
Long, cold nights now life is harder
For the land it's time to sleep.

You dream of how it used
to be
In the days when you were young
All the friends who travelled with you
Have left the road and all moved on
But in this life with all it's hardships
You need some hope to reassure.
So as the Sun returns in Springtime
You'll be on that road once more
